how accounting for more data has a generally bigger impact than coming up with a better algorithm that deals with less information. Most of the additional information we're using is useless in most other ranked PvP situations - letting teams be different sizes, for instance, or letting players of drastically different levels match against each other - but many games let players with vastly different gear layouts play against each other, in situations where (reportedly) the gear plays a significant role.
